National Cadet League, 2nd Weekend Update

A tough day was expected at Chesham with 4 matches to play.

Our team of Michael, James & Tony struggled to reach form in the morning matches.

First up was Reading. All 3 boys lost out to Liam McTiernan. Michael beat Hanson Xu in a bit of a grudge match following a fiercely contested 5 Setter last season.

Both Michael & James beat Daniel McTiernan, Tony did not get of the mark in this game. So a 6-3 defeat.

Second game was local rivals Horsham. On paper this should have been a comfortable win for Pavilion but Horsham had other idea’s. Fast improving Tejas Padalker took all 3 games against our boys, Joe Baxter took 2 wins against James & Tony, Dan Pound beat Tony in 5. There were some close games but Horsham held their nerve on the tight points for the wins. 6-3 to Horsham

Game 3 saw our boys up against Chesham the Table Toppers All 3 of our lads beat Cameron Ford and they all lost to Ben Woodbridge  James in a nail biting 5th set and Ross Macniven 6-3 to Chesham

So game 4 and the league table couldn’t have looked closer. Three teams Pav, Horsham & North Hearts were looking for the final spot in the Top Division when the split is made for the last two weekends.

We were up against Kingfisher and a 9-0 Victory was required with results also going our way in other matches. On paper this would be the expected result but our boys had not had a good day. Well the boys rallied and took all 9 games then we had to wait for other results Horsham needed 3 points only to make the cut, North Hearts needed 6. With the two teams playing each other this was tense and at 5-3 to North Hearts things looked grim. But Horsham took the last game and that means the Pav made the cut but it couldn’t have been closer.

Horsham ended on 37 points Pavilion 36 & North Hearts 35

Over the two weekends our boys stats are as follows

Michael   13/20  65%  Top Man well done Michael (cementing the No.1 spot)

James      12/20  60%   A solid No 2 performance from our newest member

Tony         8/20  40%    At only 11 years old a good all round display
